About Dr. Stephen R. Grobmyer
Dr. Stephen R. Grobmyer completed his fellowship in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 2004. Formerly, the Edward M. Copeland III Chair in Surgical Oncology at University of Florida (2004-2012); in 2012 he became Section Head of Surgical Oncology and Director of the Breast Center at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He is Professor of Surgery, Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University and held the Lula Zapis Endowed Chair in Breast Cancer Research. In 2019, he was selected to serve and presently serves as Oncology Institute Chair, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. In Abu Dhabi, he is Co-Director of the Breast Cancer Program and is overseeing the development and implementation of a new free -standing Oncology Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi scheduled to open in 2022.
In 2018 Dr. Grobmyer was elected into the prestigious American Surgical Association. He is a member of the Southern Surgical Association as well. He serves on the editorial board of 6 journals: Annals of Surgical Oncology, Surgery, American Journal of Surgery, European Journal of Surgical Oncology, Gland Surgery, and Annals of Breast Surgery. He has published over 190 peer review manuscripts and 25 book chapters.
His research programs focused on innovative approaches to breast cancer prevention and treatment have been funded by over $10 million in extramural funding. He is currently leading a study to understand the incidence of abnormal breast cancer risk genes among Emirati women. His research has been featured in The New York Times, National Public Radio, NBC Nightly News, and Vogue Magazine.
